How to make granola in 15 minutes

There are many reasons why granola is one of the best morning breakfasts you can have. It is easy, cheap and healthy. You can enjoy your start of the day with milk, yogurt or perhaps with something else you prefer.

The best thing about homemade granola is that your ingredients will be fresh and by your own choice, which is actually a lot better than store bought granola. If people knew how easy it is to make it at home, they would not have to spend so much on their favorite breakfast.

Now, it is time to show you how to make this easy recipe and which ingredients you will need:


Purchase the ingredients

To get started, gather your active ingredients which should be some mix of oats, nuts or seeds and of course, dried fruit. When it comes to nuts, you can put whatever you want: walnuts, sliced almonds, sunflower seeds, hazelnuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, basically anything! You can even include dried cherries, blueberries, pineapple, apple… On and on the possibilities go!

The only thing to keep in mind before starting with your homemade granola is this: 6 parts dry to 1 part wet. Your dry parts can be whatever measurement you prefer: a glass, containter, cereal bowl and so on.

Mix the ingredients

My perfect granola consists of one part rolled oats, however, you can use as much as you like. Just be careful not to use quick-cooking oats, because these will not hold up as well as routine rolled oats. Other dry active ingredient alternatives include your preferred nuts and seeds or other rolled or flaked grains. For a good balance of flavor and texture, go for a mix of at least 4 dry ingredients. A great ratio to follow is 3 parts of oats, 1 part nuts, 1 part seeds, and last part of whatever you wish.

Blend the ingredients together

Wet ingredients make the “granola magic”. They coat the nuts, grains and seeds which makes them clump together. If you like to keep an eye on your line, do not put too much sugar, but if you eat granola as your desert, than you allowed adding a few spoons. When it comes to oil, make sure you use coconut oil, virgin olive oil or just a perfect mix of the two. For sweetener, you need something of liquid form. You can use honey, melted sugar and water, maple syrup, agave nectar or your favorite fruit syrup. Whisk together your oil, sweetener and egg white (if you prefer the granola clumped together) then stir it into your bowl of dry components to mix everything nicely.

Taste it

Before starting the baking process, taste the ingredients and see how it is going. You can always add cinnamon, cocoa or vanilla extract. Include everything you want and do not forget to add a bit of salt which perks the flavors. If after tasting, you think it is not enough sweet, add a bit of brown sugar.

Bake it

Put a baking sheet on the pan and then spread the granola mixture. If the layer is too thick, get another rimmed baking sheet and divide the mixture between the two. Bake at 300 ° F and occasionally stir it, so the granola gets its golden brown color. After 40 minutes, take it outside and let it cool.

Fruit for the end

If you want to add fruit in your granola, do it at the end. Baking dries the fruit and we do not want that. Put your cherries, cranberries, apricots or else into the baked granola and let is cool before serving it. Transfer it into a jar, after the cooling process and voila, you have succeeded making homemade granola.
